Macerata made it 2-0 in the quarter-final series over Treviso thanks to a 3-1 victory. MVP Cristian Savani, who was key with his strong serving.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Treviso): “Shame because we played two good sets in my opinion, but a couple of inaccuracies cost us dear in the first and fourth set. It’s obvious that a team that wants to aim high cannot afford to make such mistakes. In the end, Macerata sealed it with Savani’s serves, he is capable of that, but also because of our mistakes. Each game in the playoffs has a different story, so we’ll take that as a motivation for game 3. We did not give up anything tonight, and neither will we next Wednesday”.

Mauro Berruto (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “That’s the playoffs, an up-and-down game which in the end we won, and that’s and important result. The first set won by the minimum margin gave us a lot of confidence. We’re serving well in clutch time right now, and that’s really helping us when the sets or games are on the line. In the first two games, we managed to turn things around in our favour, we had the upper hand even when the play got dirty”.

Trentino wins game 2 of the quarter-finals over San Giustino 3-1. The hosts had taken the first set by playing extremely well but could not hold the European Champs any further. Kaziyski in the MVP.

Emanuele Zanini (coach RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “I am extremely satisfied with the way the boys played the first set, that was really excellent. But it is difficult to keep up this technical and mental level. It was our inexperience against their great experience and capacity to handle things in the tough times. We left it on the court, but Trento is a great team. Incredibly, we struggled more against their floating serve than the jump serve. Today again, our amazing fans pushed us like they did all season long”.

Jan Stokr (Itas Diatec Trentino): “San Giustino played extremely well in the first set. They put us under pressure right from the start. Each touch was a point. From the second set on, we put on show all our power. I improved too and we won it”.

Verona and Cuneo gave it a good and long fight that lasted five sets. Verona lost  Meoni for intestinal flu after a few minutes. MVP: Brunner with 82% in attack, 4 blocks and always hard to deal with from the serve: he hit 28 without a mistake.

Maurizio Latelli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It would have been unbelievable to win tonight, we would have deserved it. The team faced some difficulty with me on court but it found a way out with great character and personality, they gave me a big hand. There is a big disappointment tonight, the crowd deserved the win like us, we gave everything we had”.

Hubert Henno (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “The important thing during the playoffs is to win, 3-2 is fine too. We got back on track in the tie-break after two sets in which we faded. Verona will play the next one without pressure, a game in the playoffs is never easy, now we’ll rest and then prepare with conviction for the game in Cuneo”.
