An unstoppable Trentino overwhelmed Vibo Valentia in the first Italian Cup semi-final. Thanks to this sweep, Trento will take part in its fourth consecutive final. As for the game it’s been tight until the 15-14 of the first set, then it became all one-way traffic. Coach Blengini tried many substitutions to turn things around but there was nothing that could stop this winning machine. Vibo made too many mistakes and Klapwijk was not having a good day (24% in attack). On the other side, Trento scored 7 aces and 12 blocks. Kaziyski was top scorer and MVP.
Raphael Vieira de Oliveira (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Important win. We made it hard for them from the start which was good because Vibo was motivated and confident after its quarter-final win over Cuneo”.
Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “I’d say that the recent game played in Vibo was useful to know their team even better. We did a good job of limiting their main men: Klapwijk and Urnaut. Our level of play was excellent but in the final that is not going to be enough”.
Osmany Juantorena (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It was not easy but we really wanted to make it into our fourth consecutive final. It does not matter whether we play Macerata or Modena”.
Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “I am disappointed because I know the team can play at a different level. Unfortunately, we only hanged on for part of the first set before disappearing in the two following. Trento does everything possible to limit your strong features and it’s not a surprise. They neutralized our attack. But anyway, this game should be used as a lesson for the future”.
Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Let just say the game ended a little bit too quickly. We had a go in the first set, but Kaziyski destroyed us on the serve, he proved he was in great shape. I did not like the fact we gave up too easily but these are new steps for this club which is getting better”.
