BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 2-3 (25-23, 20-25, 31-29, 19-25, 14-16)

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink 21, Antonov 12, De Pandis (L), Casadei, Kohut 12, Alletti 1, De Togni 6, Freriks 1, Rouzier 26, Maruotti 4. DNP Marchisio, Gonzalez. Coach. Piazza.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 9, Petric 19, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 5, Barone 8, Della Lunga, Mitic 5, Vujevic 7, Atanasijevic 28, Semenzato. DNP Paolucci, Della Corte, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

Live on Rai Sport, Perugia registered the first big coup of the 69th Serie A season by beating Cuneo 3-2 away from home. Atanasijevic was named MVP as he scored 28 points. Cuneo had its best man in the French outside hitter Rouzier (26 points).

Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “This was a very important game for us, and for me as I’ve joined the group just a few days ago. It was not easy, but this is a good basis to improve on. We have to keep going like that in the next few games”.

Aimone Alletti (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We knew it was going to be a long and difficult game, and that’s how it turned out to be. The game was decided on just a few points but they deserved the victory”.

CASA MODENA – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 28-26)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 4, Sket 2, Deroo 13, Quesque 14, Kampa 3, Bartman 9, Beretta 9, Bossi, Krumins. DNP Donadio, Hendriks, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 4, Kauliakamoa Jr, Toniutti 2, Tillie 6, Jeliazkov, Koumentakis 3, Patriarca, Klapwijk 14, Cester 5, Bari (L), Cebulj 12. DNP Cricca. Coach. Bonitta.

Modena had the better of Ravenna 3-0 but the game was much tighter and more intense than the score might suggest. Over 3000 supporters filled the stands for this special derby. Modena built its success on the reception (67%) and attack (49% vs 39 for Ravenna). All the newcomers did well: the German setter Kampa, Italian international Beretta, as well as Bartman and Sket. Guillaume Quesque was named MVP.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “I am very happy with the three points, we really needed them. The game was tight, more than what the scoreboard says. We did well in certain areas like the serve, while we were not too bright in dig and counter attack. We know we have to get better and roll up our sleeves because we have two very tough games ahead (Perugia away and Piacenza home).

Marco Bonitta (Coach CMC Ravenna): The result is logical: we did rather well at 300°, we just lacked those 60° of the serve, which is a factor that has a huge influence on modern volleyball. The last play? I think it was deflected, but it should not serve as excuse for us. We make 10 mistakes a set, the ref can make one”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-20) CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Paparoni, Zaytsev 13, Stankovic 2, Patriarca 4, Kovar 8, Giombini, Kurek 12, Baranowicz 5, Podrascanin 11. DNP Lampariello, Parodi, Monopoli. Coach. Giuliani.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Piscopo, Mazzone 8, Izzo 1, Del Vecchio, Cesarini (L), De Marchi 1, Sabbi 14, Zanuto 8, Blagojevic 1, Fornés Jul 2, Casoli 4, Saitta. DNP Porcelli. Coach. Cichello.

Positive first outing for Macerata which defeated newly promoted Molfetta 3-0 in a near sold-out arena. The only tight set was the first, Macerata stepped up a gear in from the second. A good test two days before the Champions League opener at home against Kazan. MVP: Podrascanin

Jiri Kovar (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We played a good game, even if we started off a bit tense, I think this was obvious. We took the first set thanks to an effective serve, then we found our rhythm, especially in the second set, and we won the three points. We are improving, next for us is Kazan in the Champions League”.

Juan Manuel Cichello (Coach Exprivia Molfetta): “In the first set, we made it difficult for Macerata with our serve, then they played better. We have to keep working to play good volleyball, the kind we have seen only in flashes today. But Macerata is a candidate for the league title, they played better than us. This was a first initiation with the elite, the boys played as I had asked them and now we will work hard to get better.

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-1 (28-26, 18-25, 25-13, 25-23)

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO: Franceschini, Fromm 17, Carminati, Lensi (L), Corvetta 1, Dolfo 10, Massari, Tosi (L), Piano 7, Van Walle 31, Rossi 9, Marchiani. DNP Sartoretti. Coach. Radici.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux 5, Partenio, Papi 14, Fei 10, Kaliberda 12, Simon 13, Zlatanov 6, Tencati 1, Vettori 4, De Cecco 3. DNP Smerilli, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

Città di Castello’s first game in the A1 in 22 years came with an upset and deserved victory over Piacenza, which did not play to the best of its potential. In a sold-out PalaKemon arena, the hosts played aggressive from the get-go, led by an outstanding Van Walle (MVP with 31 points).

Andrea Radici (Altotevere Città di Castello): “We are delighted because every player contributed to obtain an unexpected result, which we have worked on point after point. We tried to surprise our opponents with aggressiveness and, in a moment in which the teams have not reached their best yet, that went well for us”.

Luca Monti (Coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “At the start, we were paralyzed and played with fear. In a first encounter, the values are flattened and on the other side of the net, they played with will and determination. The thing I liked the least is that once we won the second set, we did not manage to take charge and make the game ours”.

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-1 (27-25, 25-27, 25-19, 25-21)

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Trinidad De Haro, Plot (L), Steuerwald 2, Randazzo 15, Forni 7, Villena, Crer 5, Gavotto 22, Ogurcak 11. DNP Scopelliti, Sardanelli, Presta. Coach. Blengini.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 8, Blasi 1, Pesaresi (L), Ter Horst 22, Gasparini 14, Gabriele, White 14, Boninfante

In front of a big crowd, Vibo Valentia began their 2013-14 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Verona. Vibo had some good serving from Randazzi and a solid performance in attack from Gavotto (MVP and top scorer, together with Verona’s Ter Horst). Some excellent blocking too from Crer and Forni.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Tonno Callipo Calabria): “I am extremely satisfied. We knew it was going to be very difficult, in these first three games, especially without Cisolla and Farina. This is a particularly important victory, because the boys fought hard, they kept at it and managed to get this win despite the fact they were physically tired”.

Andrea Giani (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “The first two sets were very intense. I have to say that we wasted a lot of opportunities on the counter, and we paid the price because when you replay so many times, then you find it hard to get the point. Besides, we made several mistakes on the serve, especially with the floater. This is the first game of the season, there were ups and downs. We have to keep working and try to be the more consistent possible”.
