Trentino’s run into the World Club Championships was stopped at the semi-final stage. Once again it was the Russians of Kazan to prevent the Italians from going any further and winning another trophy on the international scene. Unlike in the 2015 Champions League final in Krakow, this time Kazan dominated basically during the whole encounter. Alekno’s men will take on the winner of Bolivar versus Sada Cruzeiro in the final. Today, the second set was the only tight one. Trento had gone back from 18-21 down to 22 all but a couple fo points from Mikhailov ruined Trento’s hopes. And it was precisely the outside hitter together with Anderson who proved to be Trento’s main worry. The Italians struggled in reception and serve. Trento was not productive either at the net, only two blocks registered.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Diatec Trentino): “Kazan had a great game, just like we expected. Tactically, they did what was asked, they did well in dig and attack during several spells of the game, but we could not contain them. Only at the end of the third set we got a little discouraged but I still think the boys gave their all in this game. We could have handled better certain situations at the end of the second set but we have to be aware that right now we have limitations but that we can also play at a high level, and we proved it in various moments of this encounter ».
